Our mission is to provide high quality, exciting, affordable and locally available adult learning courses which meet the needs of Portsmouth’s residents.
We do this by listening to what we are told by our current learners, partners, and people not in learning and developing programmes to meet the identified needs. We deliver some of these courses ourselves, contract out work to other organisations and by bringing together appropriate partners to plan and work together.
The focus of our curriculum is on community learning, which will increase and widen participation in learning, develop knowledge, skills and confidence, encourage progression to further learning, improve employability, develop community leadership skills, develop and promote physical and mental well being and social inclusion and support children’s achievement through the involvement of parents.
The Adult and Family Learning service aims to widen participation in learning through the following strategic objectives:
- Encourage and promote partnerships in order to develop a locally available, coherent and needs-led curriculum for adults and families.
- Assure and improve the quality of teaching and learning.
- Promote and secure equality and diversity in learning.
- Contribute further to the development of the city council as a Learning Organisation.
